Week 1 (ok, so it’s really week 2)

Habit 1:  Begin with the end in mind.

Those of us in school libraries totally get this.  Wiggins and McTighe’s work, Understanding By Design takes this same approach.  Start with your goals and essential questions.  Next, how will students demonstrate their understanding, and finally as a last step, determine what works best to get to the end (or is it the beginning?!)

Many of us intuitively design our curriculum in just this way, but Wiggins and McTighe put a face on this sometimes ‘messy,’ often challenging, but results-oriented process.

So yes, with curriculum begin with the end, but with books, never, never, read the end before the beginning!

Always more things

Showed the YouTube video, ‘Did you know’ to a business class today in the library.  It’s a good reminder that there are always more things to learn.  Only 23?  Sounds good to me!

Original 23

I had started working my way through the original 23 things a while ago when I heard about it on a podcast, but much more fun to do it with all of you.
